8 Obstacles that might derail your journaling practice
Not Starting
A blank page can feel intimidating. Just write anything to get going. I like to put
"I am writing some words and now the page is no longer blank so I can write freely.”
Judging yourself
Journaling is for self-growth and reflection. Be honest and vulnerable without self-judgment.
Write like you're talking to a trusted friend.
Inconsistency
Don't stress about missing days.
Pick back up when you can. Consistency is finding a sustainable pattern, not 100% perfection.
Consistency is Repeated Action
Wrong Style
Try different journaling styles and find what works best for you right now.
Feel free to explore and adapt as you grow.
Wrong Timing
Discover your ideal journaling time.
Before bed to reflect?
Early morning to focus?
Find what fits your rhythm.
Wrong Journal
Pick a journal you're excited about for consistency.
Consider cover design, prompts, and blank or lined pages.
Wrong Writing Tool
A pen or pencil you enjoy will make journaling more appealing. Consider look, feel, ink flow.
Is it crisp, clear, and legible? or is it smudgy and gloppy and flimsy in your hand?
Overcomplicating
Extras like bookmarks, flags, and post-its can help, but avoid going overboard.
Start simple.
Be well and Happy Journaling
